Hello to all- I have decided to start a blog while I am away, a little way for me to share and remember my days here in Australia. Also, I have never been a blogger so forgive me if I am doing this incorrectly and also, don't judge my grammar either.
Where to begin--
For those of you who have not been following me, I met a family living in Williamstown Victoria, Australia (located near Melbourne). I met this family using greataupair.com nearly 8 months ago and have been communicating with them ever since. The mothers name is Leanne, daughter Coco is 6 and son hugo is 4. A very busy, active and loving family.
On Tuesday February 25th I flew out of Kansas City, where I had a layover in LA. From LA I flew Air NewZealand for my 14 hour plane ride, landing in Auckland to take my final flight to Melbourne. Yes, 14 hours. I was very nervous stepping on that plane. I did not fly out of LA until 9 pm, they served dinner an hour into flight, we all had individual tv's where they had countless movies and music selection, not to mention UNLIMITED free adult beverages. Needless to say the trip was very easy and actually quite enjoyable. With the time change I arrived in Melbourne on Thursday February 27th at 10:30 am (Australia is 17 hours ahead of us back in Kansas).
Leanne and the kiddo's picked me up from the airport where we took the kids back to school, ran a few errands and got a little aquainted with the town. Williamstown sits on a bay where there are cute shops, cafe's, beach, pier and many other wonderful attributes.
So far I am settling in very well, i'm currently learning to drive on the left side of the road while sitting on the right side of the car (very odd). Trying to find my way around the area, dealing with jet lag and picking up on the australian lingo. Funny story, I said to Hugo yesterday "you ready to go bud" and he responded by saying "hey, i'm not a butt" and quickly I corrected him and said "no BUD or buddy" still confused he asked "well what's a bud" and I explained it's like saying mate or friend. While walking to get his sister from school he was saying "hey bud" to everyone walking past. :)
Yesterday was Leanne's birthday so we all went to dinner with a few of her friends and family. Typical American I ordered the Margarita pizza (delicious) and beer (it was a tasmanian's beer named Boag's lager, it was also a good choice).
Overall, I am overwhelmed with how wonderful the family, location and good vibes here in Australia are. I want to also thank everyone who has prayed for me while in flight, sent me kind words of positivity and have supported me thus far on this amazing journey. I am and always will be missing you all at home but am so blessed with this opportunity. Lots of love to you all!
-- Cheers, A
